Disadvantages of water-based ink

1. Low adhesion of water-based ink

The adhesive strength is closely related to the surface tension of the material. The adhesive force of water-based ink is indeed a little worse than that of ink, but it can be achieved by some auxiliary means, so the adhesive force is not a problem.

2. Poor gloss of water-based ink

Glossiness is a natural disadvantage of water-based inks, but this disadvantage has gradually narrowed, not as obvious as some people said. In order to solve the problem of glossiness when producing water-based inks, manufacturers have done a lot of work in color, such as adjusting the concentration of low viscosity, increasing the proportion of pigments, and refusing to use low-quality pigments. After several years of efforts, we can see that the improvement effect is very obvious.

3. Slow drying speed of water-based ink

Water based ink evaporates water, while solvent ink evaporates solvent. There is an essential difference between the two, so water evaporation must be slower than solvent evaporation. However, with the technical progress of various high-speed flexographic printing machines, it can be said that there is no problem of slow drying now.

The water-based ink must be more expensive than the ink, which is determined by the raw materials of the two inks. Although the oil consumption of water-based ink is less than that of solvent based ink due to the same printing area, the actual oil consumption of the combined ink is not more than that of solvent based ink, and the larger the printing area, the smaller the gap between the two inks.
