Sublimation Printing Ink

Sublimation Printing Ink

Sublimation printing ink (also known as heat sublimation ink or heat transfer ink) is a special type of dye ink that, through high-temperature heating, sublimates directly from a solid state to a gaseous state, penetrates the surface of the substrate, and solidifies to achieve a durable and vibrant pattern transfer.

Product Introduction

Product advantages of sublimation printing ink

Color performance advantages of sublimation printing ink:

1. Rich and vivid colors: Saturated color gamut, bright colors, high density, and clear images after transfer.

2. High color fidelity: Color reproduction rate can reach 90%, with the transferred image closely resembling the original.

3. Rich layers: Natural gradient transitions, high fidelity for fine lines, and effects comparable to professional printing.

4. Photo-quality: 300dpi resolution is almost equivalent to 4800dpi of an inkjet printer, providing photo-realistic fidelity.

Durability and longevity of sublimation printing ink

1. Never fades: Ink molecules penetrate deep into the substrate, fusing the pattern with the material, offering extremely strong lightfastness and long-term preservation.

2. No peeling or cracking: Does not form a film on the surface of the medium, ensuring the image is firmly attached with no risk of peeling.

3. High color fastness: Washing fastness reaches level 4.5 or above, with excellent scratch and abrasion resistance.

4. Strong outdoor weather resistance: Can be used outdoors for over half a year without fading, with some products claiming 10 years of fade resistance.

5. Anti-oxidation and anti-discoloration: Waterproof, fingerprint-proof, and excellent long-term preservation performance.

Common application scenarios of sublimation printing ink

1. Apparel and textiles: T-shirts, yoga wear, cycling clothes, flags, banners, shoes and hats, bags

2. Home decor: Throw pillows, quilts, rugs, curtains

3. Hard goods: Mugs, phone cases, laptop cases, metal plaques, glassware, ceramic tiles, PVC boards

4. Advertising industry: Outdoor advertising, signage, display materials.

Precautions for using sublimation printing ink

1. Preparation before printing

1) Before changing the ink, flush the printer lines, printheads, and ink tanks with cleaning solution to avoid mixing residual ink.

2) After injecting the ink, let it stand for 20 minutes to allow air bubbles to fully dissipate.

3) Confirm that the surface of the sublimation paper/transfer film is free of damage, stains, and wrinkles.

2. Printing settings

1) Mirror printing: For products like phone cases and laptop cases that need the pattern to appear on the front, the mirror function must be enabled.

2) Color management: Install the ICC profile provided by the ink brand, and select "Photoshop Manages Colors" mode in Photoshop.

3) Paper setting: Select "High Quality Glossy Paper" mode.

Note: Apple computers currently do not support ICC profiles.

3. Heat transfer parameters

1) Temperature: 160-180℃ (adjust according to the substrate)

2) Time: 30-60 seconds

3) Temperature differences vary greatly between different devices; it is recommended to test first to determine the optimal parameters.

4. Environment and maintenance

1) Regularly monitor the humidity in the printing room to prevent consumables from absorbing moisture and ink from abnormal flow.

2) When not in use for a long time, clean with cleaning solution and turn on the machine once a week to avoid printhead clogging.

FAQ

Q1:What is sublimation ink? How does it work?

A1: Sublimation ink is a disperse dye ink, which is a type of-based ink. Its core principle is solid → gas → penetration and solidification:
1. The ink is in a liquid state at room temperature and is printed transfer paper.
2. When heated to a high temperature (160-200°C), the ink sublimates directly from a liquid to a state without passing through a liquid phase.
3. The gaseous dye penetrates the surface of polyester fibers or polymer coatings.
4. After cooling, the gas solid, and the ink is "locked" inside the material.

Q2: What is the difference between sublimation ink and ordinary ink?

A2:1. Their transfer methods are different: sublimation ink sublimates and penetrates at high temperatures, while ordinary ink adheres to the surface at room temperature.
2. Their environmental friendliness is different: sublimation ink is solvent-free and pollution-free, while ordinary ink contains volatile substances.

Q3: Can sublimation ink be used in a regular printer?

A3: 1. An inkjet printer must be used, and it must be paired with dedicated sublimation ink.
2. Mixing inks from different brands is strictly prohibited: mixing different brands of ink will lead to severe color deviation, unclear edges, and insufficient penetration.
3. Printhead requirements: It must be compatible with piezoelectric printheads (Epson, Mimaki, etc.); regular pigment ink printers are not applicable.

Q4:What materials can be printed on with sublimation printing?

A4: Sublimation printing has strict limitations:1. Best suited for: High polyester fabrics (70-100% polyester), polymer-coated rigid substrates.
2. Common products: Sportswear,-polyester graphic designs, coated mugs/plates/panels, phone cases, metal plaques, glassware.
3. Not suitable for: Pure cotton fabrics, dark- clothing (the dye is translucent, so light colors work best).
4. Sublimation printing is most suitable for polyester or polymer-coated items, which is core difference from DTF printing.
