Basic Knowledge of DTF Powder (Heat Transfer Powder)
1. What is DTF Powder?
DTF Powder (Direct to Film Powder) is the core consumable in the DTF digital printing process, also known as hot melt powder or transfer powder.
Function of DTF Powder:
Sprinkle powder on the wet ink surface after printing, and after heating and curing to form a film, transfer the pattern from the film to the fabric.
Material: Mainly TPU (Thermoplastic Polyurethane), PS, PES, and other polymer materials.
Mesh Size: Commonly used 80-170 mesh; the higher the mesh size, the finer the powder.
2. Core Characteristics of DTF Powder
High Adhesion: Ensures the pattern adheres firmly to the fabric and is resistant to peeling
High Elasticity: Adapts to fabric stretching and is resistant to cracking (especially suitable for sportswear)
Washability: Can withstand 30-50 machine washes without fading or cracking
Environmental Friendliness: Solvent-free, low VOC emissions, compliant with European and American environmental standards.
3. Process Flow
1. Printing → 2. Powdering → 3. Drying → 4. Heat Pressing → 5. Film Peeling
Key Parameters:
Powdering Timing: Apply powder immediately while the ink is still wet to ensure adhesion
Drying Temperature: 115-125℃, Time: 30-60 seconds
Heat Press Temperature: 150-180℃ (adjust according to fabric)
Heat Press Time: 10-20 seconds, Moderate pressure.
4.Key Considerations for Choosing DTF Powder
Powder Color: White powder is the most commonly used; transparent powder is used for special effects
Particle Size Uniformity: Choose well-sieved powder to avoid clogging the nozzle
Melting Point: Low-temperature powder (90-110℃) is suitable for sensitive fabrics; high-temperature powder (120-140℃) offers better washability.
